In the fall of 2011, chess fever struck p79! During some periods in the p79 Office, four boards were hopping at once. Soon we hit upon the idea of a tourney--and doing something spectacular to cap it. Here's what that looked like.
Below is the time-lapse version of the final game of our tournament, a brutal contest between Steve Roussin '13 (black pieces) and Dan Mandelbaum '12 (white pieces). Students, staff, and alumni became living rooks, bishops, pawns, and queens controlled by the contestants one crisp spring day in the Project '79 Courtyard of the Sciences.
(Perhaps owing to its grand soundtrack, this short document directed by Nick Estevez '12 was featured on the Facebook page of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Archive of Recorded Sound.)
